Solution to Blank Screen During Calls
Hopefully very few people will need to use this thread and I have just been unlucky with my phone.
I have Omnia 7 from t-mobile in UK
When I first started to make calls the screen would go blank before I raised the phone to my ear. Even setting the phone down on a flat and level surface after getting the accelerometer to 'kick in' failed to allow any buttons or screen to activate.
This was causing me an issue when I phoned someone and got through to answerphone. I ended up leaving a three minute message of rubbish whilst trying in vain to get the screen to come back on. Resorting to restarting the device to get screen back!
After a day of this I decided enough was enough and I would find a solution.
It seems that my phone's proximity sensor was set far too low (a setting of 10 to be precise). I have now changed my proximity sensor to a value of 30 and when I dial I can see the screen and options, when I raise phone to my ear the screen blanks, and when I then move the phone to look at the screen it lights back up with all the options.
Here is how:
from the phone screen enter ##634# to enter the diagnostic mode
then enter *#0*# to enter a screen showing options for testing
touch the 'Proximity' option (bottom middle)
This displays the proximity test with a display for current value and a set and registered value buttons as well as exit. The colours in the box in the are red for not activated adn blue for activated.
Move your hand about three to four inches from the screen until you see a PROX SENSOR value of 30
Touch the SET option
Touch the OK option
The SET option will inverse in colour
WAIT - WAIT - WAIT
The phone will reboot and you will now have a phone that when you dial still displays the screen, when you raise to ear the screen blanks, and when removed from ear the screen returns.
interestingly I now have a Diagnostics option in my programs list too!
