...I have no idea about the rooting process for EVOs being as how I have a Droid X. Is it as simple as what I posted earlier?
Wow... ok first.. you will want to move over to the DROID forums.. anything you see here in the EVO dev forums will not work for your device, and most likely will cause you all sorts of problems. This ROM in particular is for the HTC Evo, you cannot put it on your device.
I believe THIS THREAD will explain how to root your device.
After that you are better off asking in the Droid X forums for ROM advice and help.
However in case anyone has an EVO with the same questions...
First to root an EVo you have several alternatives.. the easiest is "Unrevoked" (Google it). It's a program you put on your PC, plug your EVO into, and run.. once complete you're rooted and ready to go.
After that you put ROMS on the root of your SD card (using any way you can imagine), and then enter the Bootloader--> Recovery (Hold power down, while turning on the phone) , flash the ROM and you're off.
Of course there's all sorts of tutorials out there and posts.. I suggest THIS ONE to get you started.
Ok for the non-chef's out there, can someone explain exactly what some of these non-stock modifications actually do?
Specifically:
I'm guessing from what I can find, that PNGOUT fixes simply shrink the size of the graphics of various apps?
What is Data/App functionality??
Is Nano just a text editor application? (It said nothing was added so kinda confused if this is a command line thing for adb support or what). Same with SYSRO and SYSRW
I'm assuming I'll never need to use BASH, but just wondered what kind of space it took up? If it's minor I could case less.. if it's a decent amount, lets say 4megs or more, I'd like to know how to remove it. (Is it an apk, set of scripts or something else).
Lastly... the Moving of Dalvik to Cache is actually a BAD thing in many cases (at least in my experience).
If your dalvik fills up your cache, or comes close, you will be unable to download apps from the Android market as it uses the /cache folder to temporarily download apps before installing. I had mine moved not to long ago, it took up approx all but 30 megs of my cache, and I could no longer download large apps from the market. If I resized the cache partition larger, or removed dalvik from the cache things worked perfectly.
Can I presume that to remove this from the ROM, I'd just have to remove a script in the init.d folder?
Sorry for the 20 questions, but it seems every ROM out here that has tweaks assumes users have followed the ROM from day 1 and sort of forget us newer folk who aren't able to location the original "Here's what all these things do" threads
Thanks in advance.
Actually, you were right about the dalvik location thing. I had to reflash because I could no longer download apps that were at least larger than 1mb, because the dalvik had taken up most of the space. I checked in logcat to confirm this, and I was right. I would get a error: not enough space in internal memory (something like that)
I just upgraded my Hero for an EVO.
Was running NfiniteFX's Stock ROM on my Hero.
Is this the closest thing to it for the EVO?
Are people generally happy with this ROM?
What are the remaining issues, if any?
Will the dev keep supporting it when Sprint releases new updates?
Also, does this ROM support Apps2SD? Is it built in, or does it need to be added?

Thanks. Is Apps2SD built-in to this ROM?
If not, can it be added easily?

Yeah. I have a Droid X, but I am rooting / flashing my friend's EVO 4G. Which is why I am such a noob because it's a totally different process. At least for the rooting.
So I installed Unrevoked3, but I connect the phone to my computer and Unrevoked doesn't find the device. I noticed the phone was set to charge only, though, so do I have to change that? If so, to what?

Make sure you have the unrevoked drivers installed and that the phone is on charge only with Ian debugging on

Ohh lol I thought you were asking about rooting your Droid. Well the evo is probably the easiest device to root these days... and you're 95% of the way there using Unrevoked.
Most likely you don't have the drivers installed that Unrevoked requires... or you installed them overtop of the standard HTC Sync drivers that came with the phone.
Step 1: Go into your control panel on the PC and remove all HTC drivers, any ADB drivers you might see, and anything else you notice related to Android (just to be safe).
Step 2: Reboot the PC (often drivers leave parts around so it's a good practice when replacing drivers)
Step 3: Once back up,install the drivers from the Unrevoked site.. there should be a link in the instructions.
After that just follow the rest of the instructions (which really are pretty simple) and you should be all set.
Your phone simply has to be turned on, in standard charging mode when connected.. but only connect when the Unrevoked app asks you too.
I just rooted a 2nd evo the other day, and it took me all of 5 minutes much easier than the crap I went through back in June on my own.
