Default Help! 2.12.110.4 cannot install

Hi everyone!

My Desire is unrooted with T-mobile banding running Froyo. I use o2 as provider.

The phone tells me that there is an OTA update 2.12.110.4 and let's me download. However it is not being installed. The respective zip file is only downloaded and saved to "/sdcard/download" - rebooting does not help... opening the zip does not help.

Searched the forum and many others. Only found solutions for unrooted devices. Any ideas on this?

Thanks a lot.

All the best...
Dennis

- Rename the file it downloads to update.zip and move it to the root of your sd card
- Turn phone off and turn it on again whilst holding volume down
- Highlight recovery and press power to select
- On the screen with the ! hold volume up and press power
- Highlight apply SD:update.zip and press power to select
- Follow instructions

This should sort you out

Hi everyone,

I tried that...

I renamed the file to "update.zip" and moved it to the root of the sd card.
When I highlight recovery and press power to select the phone searches for the file on sd but does not seem to find it.
Then my Desire automatically turns black after probably a second and a half and starts to boot where it hangs until I take out the battery.
Then I can boot normally...

Also tried to rename the file in the sdcard/download folder to update.zip... also copied it to a "clean" sd card...

It's like the file is not recognized...

hmmm... any other ideas?

Regards
Dennis

You should wait for phone to search SD (not pressing or highlighting anything) and only then:

- Highlight recovery and press power to select

just dont rush.

Tried that as well. It's quite fast, but if I read it correct (when the phone checks) it says that it does not find an image...

Hi everyone,

when my phone looks for "whatever".zip on the SD card it states the following...

"
SD Checking...
Loading...[PB99DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PB99DIAG.nbb]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[PR99IMG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PB99IMG.nbb]
"

...also see attached picture. I somehow managed it to take a picture of it.

I tried with different SD cards (1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB, 16 GB). I also tried it with the card I usually use (16 GB). Tried it with the card that originally came with the phone (4 GB with all original data on it - out of the box). Formatted the 4 GB card to FAT32, FAT, NTFS... nothing seems to help. Also tried it with SIM card and without SIM card... so basically I tried lots of different combinations to get this running.

But still no progress. As soon as I select recovery and press the power button the phone restarts and I get a pinkish small pic (probably due to the T-Mobile Branding) and nothing else...

Stayed on that screen for at least 30 minutes. Nothing happened. So everytime I try that I'll have to take out the battery, place it back in... just to get the phone started again - just to get the reminder from my phone that there is a system update ready to be installed.

I hope this helps to understand my phone's problem.

All the best
Dennis

Hi,

Are you actually rooted or unrooted? Not 100% clear in your first post.
If you're rooted, you shouldn't really be running OTA updates.

My understanding was that he used to be rooted on that phone, then unrooted to get some old update. But I could be wrong - why would he possibly do that?

My Desire is not rooted. Never been rooted.

Just the T-Mobile Germany branding... out of the box.
