Default [Q] How to backup when moving between builds

First of all I tried the search button, didn't find satisfactory answers. I guess someone will show me how badly I'm using the search function, in that case I'm sorry

I would like to ask what are the best ways to move between android builds backing up as much as possible, specifically what is the best "clean" and best "dirty" way.

By clean way I mean maximum of stuff that I'm able to backup and restore without affecting the new build performance or stability wise.

By dirty way I mean backing up some more stuff then by the "clean way" while doing things that MAY affect the new build in a bad way, but not certainly (it's just much less certain then the clean way).

Thanks for ideas.

I can't recommend a "dirty" way of doing it, but have a look at Titanium Backup in the market. I use that to backup and restore my apps and settings from build to build. (I'd strongly recommend getting the paid version so it restores all your apps with 1 click, rather than 2 clicks per app!)

I would thought that restoring apps and settings is dirty thing to do. Ok, let's say apps is safe, but is it really safe to backup settings? Are those android settings?

Thanks.

Something I do when switching build to build is create a folder on my desktop and transfer all supporting Android folders and files from my phone to that folder. I mainly do that when I'm testing builds so I can go back to a previous version if I don't like the build in switching to.

Also when I play around with kernels I'll have the specific build backed up so I can switch the kernels on my phone if I mess something up. Once I go back to that build everything is transferred back over with no issues.

Not sure if that's what you're looking for. Others also suggest just keeping your data image as well.
