Question [Q] Contacts lost after update!?

Im writing here because i have to where to go to ask for at problem like this

to night i updated my moms x8 because of an error with the market and gmail app on the phone. not rooted btw. and there wasent any gmail attached to the phone.
but after i had run the backup and restore application on the phone running 1.6 at that time. it backed everything up. then i plugged in the phone and updated to 2.1. after the install and i turned the phone on. i find out that i only got 4 contacts on the phone. and 1 contact in fav section there's no contacts on the simcard and backup and restor took about 1 min to restore contacts when i restored from the backup.

Any idea where the contacts have run away to or are they just lost for good?

They could have been attached to a google account. So when you backed up the files, you only backed up what was actually on the phone, which could be those 4 contacts.

Try doing a sync.

I think it does it automatically. One day I went to look at the contacts that were actually stored on my phone. Apparently none of them were, they were all tied to the gmail account.

So yeah, I'd say it does it automatically. I could be wrong though.
