Explain superuser?

What exactly can I do differently if I root and get the superuser permissions? Can I get rid of all the ATT crap? Also..will I lose my apps,music,pics,etc when I root? I'm from the iPhone community so I'm used to losing everything when jailbreaking n all that.

You could do a little research to find out

Think of it as having administrator rights. Yes you can remove bloat. No you wont lose anything post root.
