So after 2 hours and 18 minutes on the phone they are shipping me a replacement.
I currently have the ODIN flash for 2.2 (froyo) on the phone and it's rooted.
If I just flash ODIN stock 2.1 back to the phone I won't have any trouble right? That will unroot the phone and put all the AT&T crapware back on the phone, right?
Yes yes yes

So I've had my Captivate for a while, but haven't had a single shutdown issue. According to my IMEI, I am in the affected range. Should I go through all the trouble of backup, master clear, replacement, etc. or should I stick with the one I have?
Not all phones in range will have that problem. Keep your phone

A guy from ebay told me that his 1007 build has got a IMEI ending with 5750 ... is that possible ?!
I thought above 5500 are just the newer 1011,1012 and so on
Sounds hoakey to me

I have a batch 1007 phone with an IMEI ending w/ 6405. I am starting to wonder if the 4 ending numbers are relevant or not because there doesn't seem to be any order to them. I guess if I added the IMEI SV to the end xxx6405/05 I would have 0505.

So after months of shutdowns and BS from AT&T and Samsung, AT&T has finally come through. I spoke with someone in the "Office of the President" and after checking into the issue, they overnighted me a NEW Captivate (my phone was purchased in August, so I am well out of the 30-days). Their statement was that the defective phones are not supposed to be in the new lots or refurb lots, as it is against their procedures to knowingly sell defective phones. I would suggest taking your complaints there. The number is 1-800-331-0500. Be firm and upset, but be respectful. They will work with you.
I hope this helps to resolve the issues you are all having with swapping out your defective phones with a NEW Captivate.
I just recievied a refurb replacement that has a manfacture date of 08/02/10 for ramdom shutdown. My existing phone is 07/10/10 it only shuts down when cold < 40 deg f.Should I keep the existing 1007 or the 1008? Heard the 1008 has 3-button download problem and would like to be able to use download mode.

Just joined today and saw this thread and called the number you posted.
Got the AT&T customer support right off and told them about the problem. Talked to them about the enternal memo and she sent me over to an Android specialist. He talked to me and had me do the regular crap as everyone else. Then said all they will do is send me a referb. Then he tells me that he has had the same phone for 5 months and never had a problem. I say looks like you have gotton lucky but that dosent help me.
When we talked about the memo and all of these people having the same problem and it is all over the net. He gives me a long story that everyone is just out to try and get a new phone now to take advantage of the situation. I told him that was not my case. I had serious problems with mine and it stays off most of the time. He said he would give me a referb and that was it. He also said I could call Samsung warrenty department and gave me the number.
I called them and went over everything with them and they said if I sent it to them they would fix it and send it back in 6 days. Yea they gave me the whole battery and charger issue BS and treated me like @#$%.
My phone is just over 60 days old and falls within all of the guide lines.
Heck I would have better luck with 2 dixie cups and some string. And that is the honest truth. This POS seldom stays on. I will cool down and try some of these ideas others have talked about.
Sorry for the venting.
