I went from the Unofficial Froyo to Macnut R14 to Obsidian v4.2 and now to Nero v3. I had this problem on Obsidian, I forced into recovery by holding down the volume buttons and the power button then let go after the vibrant logo is shown twice, then flashed a new ROM and it worked, so after switching ROM's (Nero 3), clockwork is working now. I really don't know why it wasn't working, I was unable to flash any mods, themes, or kernels but a ROM worked.

What to do?
I tried the update.zip via the 3 button method and via the "ROM Manager" (clockworkmod 184.108.40.206)
(I want to flash my phone with the "Darkys_V8.0_Gingerbread_Edition_Wipe")
I'm not to knowledgeable about the I9000 Samsung Galaxy S, even though the Vibrant should be identical except for the FFC and ROM, but you can try this:
Did you try disabling your lagfix?
If not then give that a try. If that doesn't do it, uninstall ROM Manager, then reinstall it, open ROM Manager, reflash clockwork, I believe the newest version is 220.127.116.11, then try the 3 button method.
