Charge only the battery with USB-cable.

I think it`s saver because you can only kill your battery.

im on it right now. i think the same ... may blow up / kill your battery, but not your entire phone. under the condition that the phone just needs power^^

plug it in another room... nobody knows, but battery acid, i think is not quite what anyone wants on his /her skin ) good luck guys

Thanks for this tip. I ran out of battery after flashing so many times the defy today!

Was it right to connect one micro sd cable to the phone and usb port and the mcgiver cable to another usb port at the same time?
Hopefully this was not a bad thing for my battery

Also the battery % dropped again in seconds to five, but hey I was able to flash my defy again
Now I will let it charge over night and finish the update tomorrow..

i think this is a "secure way to do this" .. was my way, didnt rescue my defy, but
VOL UP key before BATTERY IN ... may have... maybe this helps someone

Maybe there is a way to make a combination charging and USB data lead. I would guess that you can use a standard data lead and add a resistor to the ID pin of the USB plug to make it look like a charger. Does anybody here know the configuration of the mains charger, i.e. what resistance there is between the charger ID pin and GND/5V pins? I tried to google this but find nothing useful. I knwo that the standard motorola USB charger has 440k (google for "Motorola EMU EZX"), I suspect it may be the same for the micro USB charger.

The interesting statement is in section "3.2.1 Power"

... A Factory Mode can be entered by applying VBUS voltage to the USB_ID pin. The purpose of Factory Mode is to allow power-up to occur without a battery...

The document is for the Razr, but if they use similar protocols then this might also be valid on the defy...

I try update for 2.2 CN and dont turn on my Defy!!! i a stupid and try flash defy with 50% of batery and die. But before i charge with method and "IS A LIVE!!!"
