Default [Q] How do you Fastboot for splash screen change

I downloaded winrar, Android Flasher_1.5.5.rar, and created a bitmap image as required in the thread:
[UTILITY] 1-click Android Flasher(Recovery, splash1, Radio, HBOOT)[V1.5.5](UPD!) - xda-developers
I got an error message and see from one of the posts that you must be in fastboot. How do you get into fastboot, does your phone need to be connected to the computer at that time, and does the phone need to be powered off first?

BTW its an evo 4g rooted with unrevoked3

To get into fastboot you power your phone off, hold VOL DOWN and POWER till you get to the HBOOT screen. Then you will see an option called fastboot. And yes you need to connect your USB to your computer to send fastboot commands.

OK, so I held the down volume button and the power on button. I have ascreen with HBOOT highlighted and FASTBOOT highlighted and the three skateboard figures, and connect the cable. I go to flasher click it, click the flashboot exe file , click splash, click my img and I get the error:
See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.
For example:
<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>
When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

There is an easier way to flash the first splash screen. Download a pc36img.zip from unrevoked.com and rename the image you plan to use to splash1.img and put it into the pc36img.zip replace the one that is in the zip. Then place the zip on the root of the sdcard and boot into the bootloader. It will then ask if you want to update. Just push vol up for yes and voila new splash. This font work for everyone. But it is worth a shot.

Thanx:
ok I did all this; albeit it never says anything about whether the phone should be connected to the computer at this time, or what the phone settings needed are, or what to do after the zip folder is created. I guess my phone must be broken.
