Default [Q] Fire!?!?

So my Epic started on fire yesterday when I plugged it into my truck. Luckily I was paying attention and was able to eliminate major damage. The charging port is destroyed but the phone still functions. Sprint is replacing it no problems and they even swapped out my Samsung charger.

Here's the question I have been unable to find an answer to. I want to unroot my phone prior to sending it back. Is there a way to do this with update.zip or another way? Obviously there is no way to plug into my computer to Odin or use one click. Thanks!!!!!

I have only seen this when a phone has liquid damage, a ghetto 3rd party charger is used, or something is inside the port that ignites when it is plugged in.

I am surprised sprint is replacing your phone. A tech at a store could have rightfully denied your claim.

I wouldn't worry about the root in a hardware situation..

Yea I agree some pics before you loose it would be awesome! I'll look into it as far as deleting root I'm sure no usb is required since you are at the least deleting just the su file

Just a thought, but why not use a rooted file manager and delete enough OS files to prevent boot.
But with a hardware return I bet they just toss it in a parts reclamation bin.

Do you have a terminal program like connectbot? Remove superuser.apk and su.

Thanks for the help guys.. I decided to wing it and just did a titanium backup in the truck outside and then hard reset. They immediately pulled the battery and tore into the phone to look for the culprit.. Board was pretty fried and I'm sorry I didn't get any pics before they took my phone.
Got a refurb that had hair under the screen in the adhesive, they swapped it out for another refurb and it has a broken camera button.. Waiting on my 4th Epic in a week right now

I was a little ticked the last time and they said my next one would have 2.3 pre installed......

Or maybe not.. lol

Thanks

If you are claiming a fire damaged phone and you don't want them to see what you've done you can just stick it in the ol' nuker-wave for ohhhhhhh say 5 seconds? It isn't long though to blow anything up, but it will fry every chip on the board. But be sure to remove the sd card. I list as lot of good stuff the first time I did this and forgot the sd..
