Default Battery life in standby

Hi all,

Great that there is a XDA vega forum too now! I love my vega, especially with pauls custom rom (r6) and performance pack but there is one thing still annoying me, the battery life in standby. I already removed telephonyprovider.apk and phone.apk and at first, this seemed to work (at least for one day). However, last night my battery plummeted from 70% to 20% in the morning (9 hours standby).... Because it does not always happen, i am guessing it is some app or something that i started before i put the vega in standby. Any ideas which process/app might be the culprit? I have push email enabled BTW.

Thanks!

Hi matthijskox

If you have Spare Parts (i can't remember if this is installed by default or part of the Modaco Add-On pack), there is an option under Battery -> Partial Wake Usage to show which apps have been using batter whislt the Vega is in sleep mode. My experience is that the default mail app is a real battery hog, even when configured for manual mail retrieval. K-9 is much better, but i have not managed to get push mail working! The problem with push in general on the Vega is that wi-fi is disabled when the device sleeps, so your mail app will be trying to sync without a network connection. Twitter and Facebook apps will also try and retreive data in the background by default.

Hope this helps.

This helps.... a bit. I set it (email app, for my exchange account) to check every 30 minutes and now i lost 15% in 8 hours. Is that kinda normal?? And would it make a big difference on battery life if i let it check every 5 minutes? This would be more convenient. BTW, does the gmail app also use push? I can't find it in the settings, maybe i can improve battery life even further when i disable push for gmail as well.

Thanks!

15% over 8 hours is just under 2% per hour, thats 50 hours standby.... Seems pretty reasonable to me! Cant test mine over that length of time as I am ALWAYS using my vega but when I leave it over night it seems to do similar things to that.

How many times does everyone actually turn off their vega totally? I do it every night or every day when I'm not using it... if you leave it on standby is there any damage that can happen, especially if u forget to charge it and the battery depletes fully

Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Make sure it's mounted as R/W (default is read only, R/O) by pressing the button on the top of root explorer if necessary.

What about just putting it into airplane mode and still have wifi running, using SwitchPro Widget to activate wifi or something similar?
