I just have to say, who does sprint feel like they're PR'ing?! I mean really? Cut/Paste + PR =\= happy customers

I found it quite interesting that the T-Mo exec came out and admitted they'd had Froyo from Samsung since late November and they'd dropped the ball on adding their crapola to it. Makes me wonder if Sprint has had it that long as well and has just been dicking around all this time.. almost makes perfect sense with their lack of advertising/acknowledging of the Epic.

I haven't read that yet, but if the T-mo exec came out and said legitimately said that, well KUDOS to them. That is awesome. It would be nice of these other companies were as transparent, although they have all been too quiet for too long.

We all know that the carriers have had it since November. Samsung created a rom based on 2.2 and delivered to carriers in november. Then Z4root came out and was published to the market, allowing anyone running 2.2 to root their phone ridiculously easily. Instead of releasing this update to the public and allowing them to root their phones easily, the carriers told Samsung to go back to the drawing board with 2.2.1, which was the update that Google made to Froyo to specifically combat Z4root. Since November, that is what Samsung has been working on.

At least this is what I gather from all of the information I have read. It makes perfect sense. Its like a perfect storm for the Galaxy S users in the US. Samsung had to basically push out 2 updates to the carriers back to back while the users sit there and think Samsung is still working on the original.

Personally I think it's a matter of too many hands in the cookie jar. I heard from the Denver District Sprint mgr (we're dating) that they've had it since Nov and there are conflicts between sprint id and tw, but samsung won't allow sprint to do anything w/ tw and so Sprint is basically saying "well we won't have our sprint ID, making us money, so we're not releasing it until sprint id works correctly" and sammy says "not touching tw!" And so here we are ... stuck. 2.2 on epic = nukem 4?

(As a side note, nukem 4 is/was released... lol...)

That's disheartening because I want NOTHING to do with sprint id, and I seriously doubt anyone else does either (I've heard nothing but bad things).

Even more troubling...I'm also fairly certain that yes, we will see froyo and eventually gbread...but the only way for sprint to do this is with some extreme bloatware..I can only imagine the end-user horror of modifying touchwiz without actually modifying touchwiz. And that is exactly what adding sprint id would do. So yes, I really do believe the sprint tweet that they're working on it but it needs to pass testing. And I'm also willing to bet my last dollar that their version of touchwiz with sprint id is failing the tests horribly. It kind of all makes sense. Because sprint can't afford to lose much money, so not releasing a bad froyo (ala canadian galaxy s) is an upmost priority.

Which leads me to three feelings.
1. I have to admit its encouraging to see them put a lot of value into quality testing.
2. Reallllllllly reinforces my wanting of carriers to just say fuk the bloatware and give me aosp.
3. And this ones just evil. Just release the faulty software already at the expense of the common user, simply so the devs can get their hands on it and get rid of the crap so I can finally have a bug free froyo.

So google is going to write hardware drivers for hundreds of different devices?

Touchwiz isn't a hardware driver though.

You literally think that Samsung has been spending the last 6 months porting Touchwiz to Froyo?

Who writes the drivers for:

display
radio
4g
bluetooth
GPS
etc, etc, etc

Do you know how many different chips and combinations of chips there are that accomplish these various tasks and the multitude of drivers needed to allow the various Android OS' communicate with the hardware? I think its a common misconception that Google just releases an OS that can instantly run on every Android device. Its the same as installing Windows XP on a computer. Sure, it will boot, but your ethernet, graphics card, wifi, etc wont work because there are no drivers.
