[Q] What do I need to do to get my number ported to ATT?

Hi all,
I have a EVO4g on sprint, but the Atrix is bringing me back to ATT. I was wondering what do I need to do to have my number ready to be ported when the Atrix releases and I pick one up? I already know about paying sprint off, etc.

all you should need to do is call up AT&T and tell them you want to port your number to them when you create your account.

They should take care of the rest for you. I don't know however what you will need to do with Sprint in terms of paying any etf.

Don't call sprint yet. Get the phone at AT&T (please go to a corporate store and give a rep the commission. We need to eat too), bring your Sprint bill (for the account number), and as long as you're the Sprint account holder, you're golden. You'll need to provide the billing address and social security number that's on the Sprint account, as well as the PIN that you use to access your Sprint account when you call.

Once you port, Sprint will automatically cancel your account and send you a bill for the termination fee. If you cancel BEFORE you go to AT&T, you will lose your phone number.

May I suggest? Get a free Google Voice account. Once you have done that, you "own" the GVoice phone number, and you can have it push to any other phone number(s) you choose.

So you give people the GVoice number, and push that to your cell phone. If you change providers, change numbers, change whatever...you don't have to do anything except change the number assignment in GVoice. No one has to know.

And if you find the new phone number is getting wrong numbers from folks who think they are still calling the old owner? GVoice can block those calling numbers--and just those callers--so you don't pay for their calls, either.

An incredibly powerful service, and an example of what ANY telco or celco could provide for your phone, if they really wanted your business instead of your wallet.
