Default [FIX] error:"Enter password to decrypt storage" Honeycomb

If you try to boot the latest version of Honeycomb off the SD card you might get a prompt at the login screen for a password to decrypt storage. No matter how hard you try to guess the password you will not be able to guess it. I think this is a glitch in the bootloader.
The fix to this is the following:
Place the SD card in your computer
open the boot partition, it will load as a drive under the name "boot".
Copy the uImage file to your desktop or other place on your pc
delete the uImage file on the boot partition
copy the saveduImage file onto the boot partition.
eject SD card
place in Nook Color and enjoy android 3.0 v04

There seems to be a problem in the image where once the card boots for the first time, honeycomb encrypts a portion of the boot image. All that is required to circumvent this is delete the image paste back.
The downside is that this will have to be done ever single time you want to boot your device.
The permanent solution at the moment is to install honeycomb to the emmc of your device.
Hopefully this issue will be addressed in the next release.

This problem seems to be experienced by a minority of users. Whether it turns out to be a problem with the HC rom DB has put, user error, both, etc remains to be seen. Thankfully, I am no longer affected by this issue and don't have to do this everytime I boot after swapping SD cards. With my current SD card I have also recently got the OC'd 1100Mhz version (the 1GHz one hung on my NC but works for others) running it seems to work without this issue as well. Have you tried all the alternative SD cards / kernels?

It doesn't make a whole lot of sense whatever is the culprit. Since not all SD cards are made the same, I'm not entirely convinced it's not the SD cards people are using. It may be that the current HC rom is picky about what brand of card you use? Perhaps not all NC hardware is equal?

HC is also potentially not encrypting anything at all but rather mistaking corrupted data for encrypted data. Perhaps the uImage is getting corrupted after every boot / shutdown? It prompts for a password because it can't open the data? If the issue can't be reproduced in a test environment and still only affects so few users then it likely won't be fixed in the next release. It also could never be fixed is the issue is with the hardware (i.e. NC, SD card, etc).

I offer this food for thought in the hopes that eventually it may eventually lead to a resolution to the affected users if such a thing is possible. At least for now, you can boot it and just never turn it off?

I tried doing this and the problem still occurred. I followed it step by step and was still left with the request to decrypt storage through a password.

I will say that I hope the next version doesn't have this problem. A 16gb class 10 card jumps from about $45 to about $100 if you need to buy the specific ScanDisk brand (which is the best) making the total cost of the tablet $350 instead of $300.

Yet for $350 other options start to open up, for only $150 is one could buy the playbook from RIM which runs android apps. I am sure, before the summer is up, a $400 wifi only tablet will show itself running honeycomb without any hacking at all.

Why do I need to spend that mch time on this trouble? I simply turn it off and on again and the problem is gone...
G1->Nexus One->Nexus 4
The "DREAM" comes true with Cyanogen Mod. The "PASSION" continues and turns into..."MAKO"

I turn it off and on again and the same problem occurs, I can't even get into Honeycomb because every time I turn it on, before even showing the lock screen, it asks for the password to decrypt.

The fix doesn't work. I am just staying with froyo now. No point to pull my hairs out for this since I have been trying for more than a week.

Actually one time I managed to boot up the hc after I copied and pasted the overclock uimage file to the SD card. However, I received so many fc problems; the rom was completely not usable.

True. In that same time, the source for HC will be released and the NC won't have to run this incomplete "preview" version. For those unable to run HC on their nook now may have better luck with the full OS release. I will not be buying a HC tablet but will instead waiting for this. I'm expecting the HC source to be available before April. Those that are impatient / don't like enjoy experimenting, tinkering with a Android devices would do better to buy a device that ships with HC already.
