liberty/sbf "residue"

I am seeking an explanation as to how a wallpaper setting manager to sneak through this process:

install Apex > full sbf > root > install liberty > full sbf > the wallpaper i had set for apex appears on first boot as the set wallpaper but not in the first sbf or in liberty, but after the second sbf...

How is this possible?

Your wallpaper choice is saved in your google account if you have "back up settings" checked. Did you log into gmail? If so, it will come back.

You should generally wipe cache/data from the stock recovery even after an SBF, some times things survive that you would not expect until after you have done that as well. I had the HTC Thunderbolt boot animation persist after an SBF until I wiped cache...

Sometimes things stick around. I still have the Liberty boot animation after about 20 sbf's.

Some apps also store prefs on sdcard (probably not the case here) so if you reload the app after loading the new ROM, it may mysteriously 'keep' the old settings.
