Default [Q] How to restore SGS to its Factory Firmware?

Hi there.

These are the details of my SGS

Samsung Galaxy S (SC-02B)
Provider: NTT Docomo
Firmware: 2.2 (Froyo)
Baseband: SC02BOMJJ1
Kernel: 2.6.32.9

Its a Japanese Model.

I am carrying an iPhone too, and as if anything goes wrong you can just connect iPhone to itunes and simply restore which will restore it back to its Factory Firmware, i was wondering how can i do this in SGS? Is it possible? If yes How and where can i get Stock Firmwares for SGS?

You can flash the stock firmwares via odin. The Firmwares are found at :http://www.samfirmware.com/. Just create an account, download a firmware that is to your phone and follow their guide

No, it's not an official site but it's okay to use the firmwares posted there cuz' there is no difference between the firmwares there and the firmwares that samsung relesae so no one can know if the firmwares are from Samsung or this site.

Official site is Samsung Update via Kies .
That will give you the firmware that came from your network with the phone .

NO other route for official network branded firmware unless you saved your original rom .

Samfirmware is a route for stock Samsung firmware and is safe .
Stock means the generic firmware that Samsung issue to the relevant networks who may then add further branding or not .

If the phone has not been modified with custom firmware then a factory reset restores original firmware .

Thanks for the replies. I have rooted my Sgs only but didnt use any firmware to flash so i guess i m still on original firmware. I have heard the firmware shipped with Japanese Sgs (sc-02b) is a bit different so i was wondering if it is available somewhere.
By the way how can i save my original firmware? Any link to some guide?

Sent from my SC-02B using XDA App

go for ROM Manger which available in Android Market.. where u can backup ur current ROM.
FOA u can install any Custom firmware in ur SGS, as i did also(i bought my SGS one month back), for that u need to ROOT ur SGS, then download any Custom ROM(i prefere Darky 9.2) and install.

The main thing i am concerned with is that my SGS is SC-02B which is a Japanese Model and it is different from other models, like it has one extra partition (i read this somewhere in this forum), so i am a little reluctant to play with the firmware unless i am 100% sure what i am doing.

Is ROM Manager to do something with the partitions?
