Everything I've read talks about europe, with no mention of a wifi model release here in the states.

I think, that is obvious, no wifi only in the United States yet (not yet).

Because Verizon want to milk the Xoom first there, exclusivity?

Most probably, that is the deal with Best Buy, Motorola, and Verizon.

Most companies use the calendar year as the fiscal year, so I doubt its that.
