Default [Q] Background Apps and Battery Drain

Hi,

I have noticed on my SGS that there are always 10-12 background apps that are running... Although I have Advanced Task Killer installed... And also there is significant drain in the battery as well... I loose 3-4% in one hour (when the phone is idle)...

Is this normal ?

Is there any way to avoid the background apps to start automatically? Does these apps drain the battery?

Also, I am using Launcher Pro... Whether it can be the reason for the drain in the battery?

Is there anyway to reduce the battery drain?

P.S: The phone is rooted...

Thanks,
Guru

3-4% isn't unusual, but task killers will make it worse.

Hmm... I have the same problem with Doc's Rom XWJS3+speedmod kernel.
Somethimes I get 2%/hour battery drain (which is normal for me) and other times I get mad 5%/hour battery drains.
When I got the 5%/h battery drain I checked Spare Parts, but it didn't show nothing unusual.
And I know Spare Parts and the usual suspects: Gallery 3D, Dialer, Fruit Ninja,...
Thx god phone reboot fixes the mad battery drain.
Too bad this isn't fixable because no app shows high battery usage in Spare Parts.

EDIT: I do not use Task Killers and yes I would also not recommend using them.

Thanks guys for the replies... I have disabled Advanced Task killer and now monitoring the battery drain...
Also, any idea if Launcher Pro consumes battery as well? Since I have kept it as my default launcher...

Thanks,
Guru

Yes I guess we are all in the same boat.
When I clear level 1 and 2 memory in the task manager, I get a note that 10+ apps have been stopped but I believe this is not the right thing to do.
Android OS seem to work this way.
I need to do some reading about it.

Can someone explain what are the disadvantages of using advanced task managers?

DONATE TO ME
the stock task manager is fine.. its the other ones from the market that contribute to battery drain,, even tho they are made to decrease battery drain.... weird i know...

they are permanently checking the OS for running apps, and certain options like 'show notification message' or 'auto kill at screen off' means the app is running permanently.... even when you kill it. it just starts back up in a blink of an eye...

stick to the stock task killer as its no better / worse than the rest......
