It's a screen resolution. Devices like the Incredible, EVO, Desire Z, etc. have HDPI, which is a high-res display format, but for devices like the Hero, Eris, and Wildfire, their resolution is MDPI, a lower resolution, the images can be a bit big and that causes an uneven appearance in certain image renderings, usually in the notification pull-down and keyboard.
