Exclamation CAUTION?

If I understand correctly, installing this ROM will prevent you from rooting your phone.
HTC Aria - CM7
HTC Aria - CMX

The School of Hard Knocks is open to all, but the tuition is a bitch!

Yes that is correct. It will install a new HBOOT loader that had closed the previous root exploit that Unrevoked used. To date they have not been able to find a exploit that will give you permanent root or the ability to flash an alternate recovery.

The best bet is to wait for someone to download the RUU, extract the ROM.zip file and create a rooted, flashable ROM.zip that ClockworkMod can install.

Default ROM.ZIP file

I have the rom.zip file from the RUU but I can't seem to open it. I wanted to take a look and see what all was in the update. Are the zip files in the RUU in a proprietary zip format?

They're signed by HTC which puts the signature bytes at the head of the zip file. I think 7zip will handle it. I use the unzip util in linux. It complains about the firest 256 bytes, but will unzip it. If you don't have linux, you can probably use the unzip command line util in the android shell to unzip it to your sdcard.

Thanks, 7zip was the ticket.

I was able to open the ROM.zip with 7-Zip but now I can seem to open the individual img files using WinImage. I was able to do use this on the HTC Inspire ROM without any issue.

That's what I want to determine, too. If it is only 2.2 then it probably isn't much different than Liberated FR008. If it is the 2.2.1 source base, then it may be worth looking at.
