How does it "help"? There isn't really any benefit to freeing up memory on the system partition.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the system partition sit on the internal memory? So if the system partition is taking up less space wouldn't that leave more internal storage? Or is the system partition size predetermined regardless? I'm pretty sure I remember cm having more internal memory for apps than I had on the liberated roms I've tried. And cm is a smaller install than liberated was. Again, correct me if wrong, but that's how I thought it worked.

Sent from my cm7 Aria.

The partition sizes are fixed. The Aria has 240MB dedicated to the system partition and 185MB dedicated to the userdata partition.

I was going to say the same thing. There is way too much space on system that should be allocated to data. The stock rom is odexed and it uses more space on system. CM are not and thus there is plenty of room. But the added dalvik cache space that CM7 needs is eating up lots of space on data.

Data/local only works on cm7 looks like you are using 2.2. Read my post on the first page.

Sure let me try to explain in better detail.
On your PC unzip your current rom.
Once unzipped you will see a folder named system open it then look for the folder named customize open it inside you will find another folder resource open that one you should see a zip file inside named bootanimation.zip remove it and save it somewhere on your PC in case you want to go back to your original later. Now take the bare version from the post here and place it in the folder. Now rezip your rom and put it on the root of your SD card
On your phone do a nandroid backup to be safe then install the new zip over your current rom. You should not have to do any wipes then reboot your phone and watch your new boot animation.

Tried both methods, update.zip and terminal. Terminal emulator method worked for me. Running CM 7.0.3. Thanks all
