Ok, falling behind on updates (8 behind on the videos and the audio version is well behind).

For video, this is because I switched over to using Nathanpc's server to provide videos (with permission) and it appears that they are not being updated now.

For audio, this is because Nathanpc was not doing audio versions at the time I switched, but by linking to his videos my updates could be done in about 10seconds, so I didn't get around to doing mp3 conversions.

What to do?
I have two issues which need help if we want the podcast:

1. Someone needs to grab the videos/audio (I don't have access to youtube at the times when I would normally be able to do this). Although it sounds time consuming, I do have some tools available which will automate this process, so it'll be a case of pressing a few buttons and it will get the new files each time, and update the podcast feeds. Aside from uploading/downloading times, the user action required is minimal. No doubt with a little more work it could be streamlined further.

2. Hosting.... The files have to sit somewhere where they can be downloaded, clearly you will need to have a few Gb of space (only really need to bother with the new videos as the links to the existing ones can stay while they work, typical video is about 40Mb). Also will need to have direct links (i.e. not like megaupload or rapidshare where captcha are needed or box.net where links are not predictable - dropbox public space works and the numbers of downloads are low enough not to be an issue).

So if there is interest, then let me know, otherwise I'm not sure if the podcast will continue or not, at least in it's current form.

Hi there,

I've started to watch your video podcast two days ago. I could not notice that it's outdated so I've came back here to chceck whats going on.

Well, I'm not a developer for Android or Windows but I'm Web developer so I decided to take my part here.

I've started to work on a script which will get Youtube video RSS and turn it into Video Podcast (I will use your XML pattern for compatibility).

Ah and for the 'hosting thing' - I'll try to point to youtube. Why copy videos to another hosting when we can grab them from youtube?

See you when I'm done.

Thanks to Nathanpc we now have new videos.

You are right, if we can grab them directly from YouTube then it would be fine and would solve a lot of problems. I think the RSS YouTube feed is limited to the last 20 only videos, but that's not a huge problem (can provide an archive version of the feed if needed).

I've also worked on a similar script, but the device I wanted it for didn't run python correctly so didn't have chance to finish it. Currently looking for an alternative way to run python on the device or different grabbing script.

As far as I know, there are no podcast apps which support directly downloading from YouTube, it's something which I hope my favourite android podcast app will do one day.

Anyway, let me know how you get on, with a bit of work could have a good solution, particularly if it can be made to select formats/audio only and allow you to select different YouTube users.

I will have another look in the Android market too, it may well present a pre-built solution - the wheel does not always need reinventing (ok looks like some are available, will test and see, i.e. TubeMate).

Just saw this. I would seriously appreciate having transcripts of the xdatv videos made available with each video. Video just doesn't do it for me - I speed read so can usually gather far more information from the transcript of a show or whatever in much less time than it takes to watch the video. If I then need to see something in the video, I can seek to that part - it's so much more efficient for me.

In addition, when I'm on the train I'm regularly in areas where the coverage is lousy and video simply isn't an option, having a link to the transcript in the RSS feed (rather than on youtube) would be awesome. Cheers.
