Got the update pop-up this morning. I have just the WiFi, no 3G. I'm also rooted and unlocked and the update worked just fine.

So it didn't unroot your Xoom?

ROM Manager works, Root Explorer works, Superuser is working. Seems fine.

But you didn't have the OC kernel, did you? It should be easy to install the stock kernel and get the update I hope!

If we did have an update.zip, how are we going to flash it without an SD card?

How do you think the update runs? Magic and rainbows? The update likely does not touch the /sdcard partition... You could put it in there.

You realize that an external SD card on any other android device mounts exactly like the xoom mounts its internal storage as an SD card.

I'd guess the internal storage mounted at boot as /sdcard is available in the recovery as /sdcard.

Can anybody with the update try these flash 10.1 apk files? First three are from the Vega (EU Tegra tablet). Fourth is "leaked" one that showed up everywhere (newest). http://db.tt/35RY29v Woke up this morning and no update. Need dirty work outsourced, apparently. These files all came from links already on XDA.
