Default [Q] Xperia Mini PRO: Search button + keyboard shortcut for quick launching any app?

Hi all Mini Pro users!

One big problem. Seems no Search button in Mini Pro. It's useful for assigning Program shortcut to each hardware key called "quick launch". For me it's my main reason to have a sliding qwerty and more useful than typing itself.
Have anybody tried a workaround for it?

thanks

Well in theory it will only work with the android keyboard not with se input. We dont have source code to change that. But for android keyboard it could be possible but then you would lose your keybinding again. Or the app launches everytime you press the button :(

That's a disaster. The upcoming Xperia PRO neither have search button too. But I saw a Globe button in its keyboard. Can a search button be mapped in it?

I remapped the globe button to search, using this tutorial:

http://communities-origin.sonyericsson.com/thread/28665

To do the hack:

1. Root your phone

2. Edit the /system/usr/keylayout/pm8058-keypad.kl file by changing the following line to the end:

key 368 SEARCH WAKE_DROPPED

3. Restart your phone and enjoy the ability to easily search in K-9 Mail or the SMS app simply by pressing the "globe" key!!

For the x10 mini pro:
If you don't use the default keyboard and the "Sym" button does the same thing as the blue button,
to remap the sym key to search, you have to edit the file /system/usr/keylayout/mimmi_keypad.kl and change the line:
key 216 ALT_RIGHT(or RIRHT_ALT, I don't remember) WAKE_DROPPED
to
key 216 SEARCH WAKE_DROPPED

For using the Quick Launch setting, use the above modification.

Once u do that, you will see the option called "quick launch settings" in the settings>applications.

If you are using Custom ROM/ ICS you are likely not to find it.
In that case:
1. Install Apex or Nova Launcher.
2. On the home screen of either Apex/Nova Launcher, click on settings>add>activities
3. Goto Settings>Qucik Launch (the first one)

There you go, you have the quick launch setting as shortcut in ur apex/nova home launcher.

Don't forget to thank me, if this helped you.
