ClockWorkMod 5 (CyanogenMod) Recovery Firmware Upgrade Guide

This is the unofficial and community way you do a firmware upgrade to CM7 for NOVO8 and CM9 for NOVO8 with CWM on the Ainol NOVO8 Advanced:

  1. Copy the downloaded file update-cmXXX-NOVO8-X.XX-signed.zip (where X is version number) and the right "recovery cmX" file uImage_recovery (where X is the CM version number) to the root of your sdcard (not in a sub directory) and insert it in the tablet while turned off. Some users report problems with large microSD cards so it's recommended to use a small one, 2GB or less. Also put smaller extra update zip files on the card, if there are any, like gapps (GoogleApps).
  2. Hold down VOL+ and press POWER (Two top buttons) and hold until CWM text options appears on screen with a black top hat logo in the middle of the screen.
  3. Navigate with VOL+ and VOL- buttons and select with the top POWER button: "wipe data/factory reset" --> "Yes -- delete all user data" --> Go Back and "wipe cache partition" (You can also use track ball to navigate).
  4. Navigate back to the main menu and choose: "install zip form sdcard" --> "choose a zip from sdcard" --> select rom and "yes". This can take a minute or so depending on the size of the ROM file.
  5. Repeat previous step for gapps or other extra update ROMs.
  6. Navigate and choose the reboot option and the tablet will shut down. Remove your upgrade card and put in your ordinary one.
