Motorola Xoom/Flashing Guide

Unlock the device

Why you want to do that: To flash a custom recovery.

Prerequisites:

  • Android SDK
  • USB debugging enabled
  • micro USB cable

Steps

Connect your device with the USB cable.

adb reboot bootloader

wait for the device to go into fastboot mode, then run following command:

fastboot oem unlock

Note to linux users: "sudo" needed

follow screen instructions.

Install custom recovery

Why you want to do that: Stock recovery doesn't allow to install custom ROMs.

Prerequisites:

  • unlocked device
  • Android SDK
  • USB debugging enabled
  • micro USB cable
  • recovery.img - the binary image of the recovery (look inside the zip file)

Steps

Reboot your device and enter fastboot mode:

then flash the recovery:

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Go in the newly created recovery (pressing vol down) at boottime.
