Software Tips
Hacking Android
Rooting the I8520 Beam
- Download Universal Androot 1.6.1 (http://bit.ly/aa4jxJ)
- Transfer file to your Phone's memory/SD Card
- Install the .apk file via a file manager app (such as Astro)
- Open the App after installation
- Click the Root Now button and wait for the rooting process to complete (10s) (note: When it ask if you want to install SuperUser as well say yes)

- Search Root on Android Market for root access only apps
- Especially the app MinFreeManager (this lets you tweak internal memory settings, use aggressive preset numbers)

Overclocking the I8520 Beam
- Download milestone-overclock module (http://code.google.com/p/milestone-o...erclock142.apk) (credits to tiago)
- Transfer file to your Phone's memory/SD Card
- Install the .apk file via a file manager app (such as Astro)
- Open the App after installation
- Load Module and accept all the superuser requests
- Set the CPU speed you want on the fly
- NB1: You can also install an app called setCPU which allows you to set minimum and maximum CPU mhz.
- NB2: I tried off the bat 1.2ghz and it crashed my beam and made it stuck on the android screen. I'm sure this has more to do with the firmware of my stock beam then the module itself. But be warned. 1ghz works fine!
- NB3: 1ghz oc causes problem in 720p videos capture
