Ubuntu Touch (also known as Ubuntu Phone) is a mobile version of the Ubuntu operating system developed by Canonical UK Ltd and Ubuntu Community. It is designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers.

History

Mark Shuttleworth announced, 2011-10-31, that by Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu will support smartphones, tablets, TVs and smart screens.

Bq Aquaris E4.5, the world’s first Ubuntu-based smartphone went on sale in Europe on 9 February 2015.[1]

Devices with Ubuntu preinstalled

On 9 February 2015, BQ launched the BQ Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition, the first smartphone with Ubuntu Touch preinstalled.[2]
