Vox glossary
From XDA-Developers
This is the glossary for Vox users. Will provide abbreviations, descriptions and other information directly related to the S710/Vox.
- SPL
- The Vox technically has no HardSPL. uSPL is a patched SPL that will essentially overwrite the SPL on device with a patched one. Initially, it is not flashed to ROM - RAM is patched to point to the new SPL (like JumpSPL achieves). You can however flash this SPL to your device which will allow you to flash any unofficial ROM without re-patching. This new SPL is lost when an official ROM is flashed.
- ROM
- is a file which contains the operating system of the phone; in the case of the Vox Windows Mobile 6 or (unofficial) 6.1
- flashing a ROM
- writing another version of the OS to the phone
- cooked ROM
- is a ROM that is made by users and not by a provider like HTC or Orange; can't be flashed without a patched SPL; all WinMo 6.1 ROMs are cooked
- kitchen
- a collection of programs and scripts needed to build ROMs
- soft reset
- just another name for a reboot
- hard reset
- basically erases everything on your phone to ROM defaults
- application (un)lock
- WinMo has a build in protection against unsigned apps (third party); removing this lock makes it possible to run them
