Root
Gingerbread 2.3.3 / 2.3.4
For S-OFF, the bootloader needs to be replaced (accomplished by root.sh method) or security flag needs to be turned off (accomplished by gfree). Gingerbread comes with new bootloader, not vulnerable to gfree, and doesn't allow loading the driver that exploits vulnerability for root.sh. So the only currently known way to perm-root Gingerbread is to downgrade it. After downgrading, use any of the Froyo rooting guides to achieve root. After you have root, you can flash Gingerbread ROM again, if you want.
