The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is a smartphone that has a sliding controller behind the screen. It was designed to play PlayStation Mobile games. The Xperia Play was released on Verizon in the spring of 2011, but was later made available for AT&T in the fall. The controller portion of the phone has the standard PlayStation buttons, a D-pad, two shoulder buttons, a touchpad, and start/select buttons. The phone itself uses the standard Android buttons, along with a touchscreen display. The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play allows for microSD cards to expand the storage, in contrast to the custom storage formats used in portable Sony gaming consoles.
