In other FTFS I lost network signal all the time ... because the bands used here are different ... Now this all works fine ...

after installing firmware and rooting phone, do you still need to install gin2kitkat rom? sorry this is a basic question. firmware is like the drivers for the hardware of the phone, right? rom is like the software only.

did you solve the emergency call only issue?in particular i have data working and it see the network if i digit *#*#4636#*#* and it has the signal, but it doesn't register on the network..i have to switch to airplane mode a few times before getting back on the network..and strange enough it is almost impossible for me to get signal at night if the phone lost it( in particular it doen't hook up to the cell when switching from one to another or frong 2g to 3g)

firmware is the operating system, that's a package including drivers

From what I see, there are a few firmware changes since .79 firmware and a baseband update. Also, some applications like the Browser and the Phonebook seem to have some changes.

when I installed the new firmware, it took me back stock. is this normal? after that, do I root the phone and then install the ginkitkat rom? so sorry this is basic to most of you on here.

the last update was just loading a zip file from CWM.

it wouldn't have been normal if it hadn't installed semc's firmware lol
Btw, yes, you can now root your phone by either using an app like z4root or by flashing a custom kernel (check if it has stock partition layout before flashing it though).
