Default [SOLVED][Q]Questions about Root tool

Ignorant questions, apologies, but I'm interested in the mechanics of the newer root tool.

Are there any differences with the newer root tool vs the old rooting method in respect to file changes? What does the newer tool do differently than the old method? Why does the older root method fail on Kitkat but the newer tool works?

The end result is the same (Apart from the version of recovery installed)

All root methods need to use a vulnerability in the security of the OS to gain root. Once a root method is published then that vulnerability is generally fixed in a later update of the OS.
Hence why older root methods do not work on newer android versions. This new tool uses a previously unknown vulnerability. It will probably be patched in the next (Or one after) release of android
