If you go back through this thread, there should be a post that has a pre-modified package that can be used as a 2nd Skype app.

Hi, agentdr8

I already know it and tried to modify skype apk with apktool. I disassembled it, corrected xml and rebuilded back, but it won't install after my manipulations. So I ask for some detailed manual about how to do it right. Here I saw link to 3rd version of Skype and don't want it.

After repacking, you need to sign the package with your own private key.

Not really the right place for this kind of info, but here's what a quick Google search found:

https://github.com/appium/sign

There's plenty of ways to sign an apk with test keys.

Would it be possible to make the changes to spoof the version here and allow the older versions of Skype to work alone? I have a BlackBerry Playbook that is fantastic except for the fact that it can't run Skype past version 3. All the 4.x versions just crash on the Android Player, the 5.x versions are inherently incapable of running because the PB's Android Player is for 2.3.3, and 5.x is for 4.0 onward. The PB Android Player also can't be rooted, as apps like Framaroot and Gingerbreak just crash and crash, not to mention 2.3 doesn't have an Xposed framework.

I understand asking about Blackberry-related things is a bit off on XDA, but to be fair, it's more of a question that can benefit anyone and everyone with an old enough device running Android, or even using emulation methods like with Jolla as well.

Try the pre-modded versions of Skype that this mod was based on. I think there's links posted on the OP that will take you to that thread.

I've tried to get them, but they've been expired.
