Strange, that flashing back the Magisk v16.7 patched boot.img doesn't help, still can not mount the sdext2 partition.
@vickybonick How could I fix it?

Have you tried recreating the mount script?

I solved the problem!
The sdext2 was mounted by Android.
This is why recreate mount script was not successful.
After unmounting it from system settings, remount by Apps2SD was successful.

Just to clarify, for other users, how did you unmount it in system settings?
I have only once seen my sdext partition show up in Android, once and I don't recall how or why?

Go to Android Settings, find Storage menu, under Portable storage part, you will find 2 partitions, one is the external sdcard main partition, the other is the sdext2 partition. I named the partitions, so it was easy to identify it.
There is an icon on the right, which ejects the related partition.

I just heard back from them and seems the app was suspended because it had rooting instructions which can harm users device and they'll not reinstate the app

Oh wow that is a really bad move by Google...
Any idea how to proceed now?

I'm thinking of these:

1) upgrading the free version to pro
2) provide support till end of this month
3) keep the thread open so people can discuss (I'll not be taking part after this month)
4) keep the website running for as long as I can bear the cost
5) move on

That's such a shame, so sorry for you that it's come to this.

Would it be possible to 'develop' another app that is essentially the same except with the rooting instructions removed and would therefore comply?

However things go I'd like to say thank you very much for all you've done.

Wow! I had no idea you have rooting instructions in the app. That is unfortunate. I can't believe they will not reinstate it if you remove those instructions. Your app is one of the most useful apps that I have on my devices.

Wow that is really sad.
I already switched to the free app because I don't need the pro features.
It is such a great app, you really didn't deserve this.
