Is there a way to remove a thread from 'Participated threads' screen on the app?

No, this is not possible, same from the website itself.

I have to say this app is quite disappointing, considering XDA and all...

There will be a new XDA forum for browser/PC soon and also another mobile app.
This XDA labs app will only survive if there will be enough people to develop it. Feel free to offer your cooperation.

So whereas Labs was mostly worked on by one guy, blk_jack, with the new forum app we get a team

That said, as mentioned in this portal announcement post, we might be willing to open source Labs if we can get a group of devs together to take over the development and planning of it. We've already gotten a few people to express interest and we're working to coordinate a group.
