I have just released alpha version 0.10

Changelog/download:
https://github.com/M66B/open-source-email/releases

I have put many hours into developing and debugging this release, so thanks are appreciated.

This version is still not suitable for production, but all basic functions are present now. The goal is now to stabilize this version into a first beta release, so please let me hear what problems you have.

Edit: due to database changes you'll need to setup your accounts/identities again.

I am not seeing the benefits of having the persistent notification.
As when internet connection is lost, happens often, bad coverage, switching from wifi to another wifi, etc.
Operations are nor resumed when connection regained.

Operation failed midoperation, but did not resume once connection re-established.
Force closing app then reopening has better effect to continue sync.

Also, small dividers/space could be added in folder checking area for setup account, not too much just a little bit more:

I will test mailbox.org after I have finished fixing bugs.

Operations no resuming has another reason shown in the error notification. I will work on fixing this.

You can read a little about services here:
https://developer.android.com/guide/components/services

Main point: "A foreground service performs some operation that is noticeable to the user. ... Foreground services must[ display a Notification. Foreground services continue running even when the user isn't interacting with the app.".

Operation: sending/receiving email
Notification: we don't like it, but it can't be done without
Continue running: is what we want

Other services types can and will be killed as soon as you are not looking at it anymore.

I will add a little spacing between the system folders selection.

In regards to operations failing, not sure what the problem is, as files are being downloaded, so not an internet connection issue, but sometimes connection fails:

It is not an internet connectivity problem, but a bug. I will figure it out.

In my case, I have app allow on wifi only using firewall.
So, in latest release only I am getting:

When I am on data, with app blocked. So it should not really be trying? Or is it an android issue not suppirting firewalling properly?
Not sure about the new email, though.
When I swipe it away from notification it just comes back the same 1 new message. But I have app blocked on data so not sure why or how it is checking new mails?
Swipe notification bug, though, as same notification reappears momentarily after swiping away
So does the null failed notification. I swipe it away and it returns. Not yet on wifi, so inyernet access blocked. So how or why is it checking for connections?

Most apps silently ignore connectivity errors (caused by a firewall or otherwise), but during development all errors are being displayed, hence why this appears. This will be improved eventually, but not just now.

Fresh install v.10
Setup my gmail account and syncing started.
Left it syncing.
Tried opening the app 20 mins later and am presented with compose email page and this error.
Cannot use back button.
Restarted app, rebooted phone but issue persists

v0.10
I can no longer add an identity for a real identity/alias. Error message: 535 5.7.0 authentification failed
It worked with the main address.

To use the same context:
• main address: [email protected]
• identity/alias: [email protected]
