if you are still having issues, you can install my TWRP as recovery using QFIL and then flash magisk.zip

fails on sahara after "select tools > partition manager"
Any idea why it might fail on that step? The log gives this error result (timestamps edited out):

ERROR: function: sahara_rx_data:237 Unable to read packet header. Only read 0 bytes.
ERROR: function: sahara_main:924 Sahara protocol error
ERROR: function: main:303 Uploading Image using Sahara protocol failed
Download Fail:Sahara Fail:QSaharaServer Fail:Process fail
Finish Get GPT

You are waiting too long to start the Partition manager and its causing a timeout.
try this. Run Qfil, remove phone battery and insert it back. hold volume up + volume down and plug usb. Phone should be detected.
Screen will either be black or white. and do the partition manager.
That should solve it.
Also, what version of android are you on? 8.1.0?

I am on 8.10. When I try to start the partition manager within a second of rebooting the phone, I get an error message along the lines of "Download Fail:FireHose Fail:FHLoader Fail:FHLoader Fail:The system cannot find the file specified", and if I immediately try the process again, it seems to initiate successfully, followed a bit later by the sahara failure message. Here's a full log example of this, with only directory names condensed, so you can see from the timestamps how long I'm waiting (the first, too-soon-after-reboot attempt fails at 14:12:13 and I try again about one second later, which works until the sahara failure):
