You need to use 'make O=out' for all invocations of 'make'.

Thank you for the reply. I tried that a couple of times already because I had read that on the first page but I probably wasn't doing something right. Will hopefully get a chance to try again tomorrow and will let you know how it goes. Thanks again

I have experience in other areas but
I'm a noob at kernel building
I downloaded the cross-compiler
I downloaded the source code tarball and expanded
Then followed the instructions

Got up to

Make clean
I get this message
make: *** No rule to make target 'clean'. Stop.
