Really hoping for some progress on this. My new phone is basically useless since nothing it optimized to use the extra processing power.

VLC already has armv8 builds, and it should be based on ffmpeg too?

Kindly look at the date. My comment was made on Jan 2015. Lot has changes were made to NDK & ffmpeg as well. VLC has started supporting Arm v8 builds from the past few months.

Dev section for that architecture on Android is far from any good. I don't think you'll find any codec optimised.. not from my anyway
