What's the advantage of this codec compared to the buildin codec from the pro player?

it supports all the codecs built-in does not any more or never did.

WMV, DTS, maybe more.

By the way, the only difference in regular version and pro is no ads. There's no added functionality. The dev even says that in the Google Play store description.

But this custom codec makes either one much better.

I'm not sure if it's codec related, but is it possible to add ibx subs support? I've read that it was there on builds before 1.9.6, but it doesn't work on 1.9.10 here

We apologize for that. vobsub (i.e idx/sub) issue will be fixed in the next update.
