I have a new pixel 3xl and I have tried all the codecs in the first post, including neon64 and AIO. My phone says it 'can't find custom codec. Please use version null ARMv8 Neon' Yes I enabled storage permission. Please help. TIA

What permissions do you have enabled in app info? Are you running android 10 Nov. update?

Just the storage one, denied camera and location and yes i am.

Made a sub folder yet 'movies' called 'MX player codec', placed the neon 64 zip in there, pointed mxp to it and worked on the first try

I finally got it working. I cleared data and cache, uninstalled and rebooted and reinstalled MX player pro.

Well, it works for me in Tab and DeX modes,

But really, can anybody explain what NEON gives? I understand this is the name for group of processor extensions of the corresponding architecture. But most of the decoding these days is done on hardware, so how we can expect some performance gain?

Can you tell me, what are the other gains from using this codec?

More smoothness? More battery playback time? Wider color spaces? More formats supported? Anything else?

Thank you!

The file 1.13.0 ARMv8 neon codec downloaded from Google drive was not accepted by MX player however the codec file downloaded from XDA:
forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=31737
was installed successfully.
