Font caching really takes a long time. I think Android contains enough font for displaying most of the subtitles.

It's a must so it could load all fonts inside a matroska container (if any exist). And as well, it only happens once at the time you played a video with SubStation Alpha subtitle(s) for the first time.

If you've problems with it (font cache is regenerated everytime you open this kind of videos), try 'Clear font cache' from General settings.
