I don't know what the PIT file is, how to back it up or even why I need to? Thanks for the assistance!

Should work just by flashing normally with odin. If not just reflash your stock ROM 4.4.2 with 3 wipes and flash the official 5.0 in odin also.

Why is the pit file required for the leaked version (32Gb Version)

Because the leaked ROM was a test ROM, not meant to upgrade from 4.4.2 to 5.0.

Guys, I can't load the TWRP file inside Odin AP field. It's been "checking MD5" for 30 minutes now, won't appear as loaded so that I can click "Start". Tried removing the battery and restarting the whole process, same thing happens. Should I wait, for how long? Any ideas?

Just some under the hood bug fixes and changes. Visually is the same without any added feature as far as I can see.

Does it wipe all data from the device?
Will all of my data be lost in case I install this firmware by Odin?

No. I managed to update from 4.4.2 to 5.0 and kept all my apps and accounts.
