Not just that, lol. Go to the link from OP to the related thread and read there especially the OP. You should keep reading the whole work so far (9 pages) to understand whats going on, it is a necessity.
This thread is for the LOS, please keep the questions relevant to the topic respectively.

Emulated storage allows you to combine the space currently used by your internal SD partition with your data partition. If you ever have "insufficient storage" errors when installing something, but you have plenty of space in your internal SD partition, emulated storage is the answer.

But please read up on the risks at https://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...lated-t3539651

"Insufficient storage" is simply lacking a big enough \data partition isn't it?
I don't think "emulated storage" is to be confused with Android 6+ optionally merging an external SD card with internal memory.
Correct me if I'm wrong though.

I thought there are 3 main benefits:
<> Greater than 4GB individual file size limit (perhaps not that important on a phone with ~13GB of storage)
<> EXT4 is more reliable/faster than outdated FAT
<> Security; enabling the ability to encrypt any personal files along with any app data since everything is held in \data. Your personal files would normally be held in the unsecure \sdcard partition.

Any other reasons experts? Does Google mandate that it must/should work this way?

Given it's age the old i9100 seems to have a few odd quirks with it's \preload partition and 512MB \system partition; it doesn't now though!
Great to see it get updated to Nougat (....and beyond?)

Flash to Nougat now or wait a while for emulated storage.
It sounds like it's all mostly working.
I get around 7 days of battery life with the phone left idle on CM13. The phone is obviously much faster than TouchWiz.
Purely used as a phone - I can't see why'd I'd need to replace it!
Does the newer aggressive Doze in Nougat make any more of a difference? Already have Greenify.

Yes, and once you have emulated storage you can shrink the internal SD card partition and give that space to the adjacent /data partition.

Your other reasons are good too

I'm now able to pass SafetyNet with microG.
Tested now with the latest build and it works perfectly.

The weather widget is "a bit" hard to read, I mean, this is an issue from the older CM Yahoo Provider app if the menu is opened, not designed for Nougat, the letters must be white - I can't setup the colors. See screenshot.

Wise advice, because I did something wrong and now I have to start all over, sigh... Hahaha.

At least I made it to boot to Stock ROM again, but since I don't have any old files (cm12, TWRP, etc), I'm stuck with the ugly 4.1.2.

Edit: Problem solved!
