This is only for people who has troubles with mms.I have no such problems so I don't need to do this

Sent from my GT-I9305 using XDA Free mobile app

@winxuser and others who might be on Optus (or reseller like me.. Vaya)... Could you post your active Internet and MMS APNs and baseband/modem that are working?!

I'm having this problem (or something similar) on MM RR 5.7.x as well as Nougat Beanstalk 7.1. with various modems and have almost given up trying to fix it..

Any advice you can give would be appreciated..

Apart from collapsing the APN's (which didn't work).. I've tried different modems and tried switching between auth none and auth PAP as the Optus guides all show PAP.

Recent modems tried are XXUFOI1, XXUFPE2 and now back on XXUENA2 (which seems more stable).

Thanks

Don't give up, I might buy myself a optus prepaid SIM and see what we can do, it's only a couple of dollars [emoji106]

Please don't waste money on me/it.. there's every chance it might be a vaya issue and not optus.. there's about 10 optus APNs for various resellers. I just don't know :(
Ok bro no worries if there is that many it's probably a bit hard to accomplish [emoji106] I'd thankyou for your info but think I've used all my thanks, I'll try but if not I'll do it tomorrow.

@erosco I did notice that if I changed on the default apn page my apn to Telstra w/portal instead of Telstra internet like the apn in the screenshot I could send mms on default settings but adaway stopped working so I didn't keep that configuration. Not sure if you have this option but if you do try that.

Edit: Thanks have been reset, thanked your post [emoji106]

Have so many choices (see attached list). Tried a few with little luck.. Happy to play around again.

I do notice that when I try and send (or receive) an MMS, my phone calls, sms and Internet all stop working.. I need to reboot to reset the modem/ril.

Edit: *sigh* actually managed to send one MMS by selecting the "Optus" (internet) APN for data.. then further MMS's all hung :(

Cheers

Maybe optus internet one? If you haven't already, just try them all (the ones in the first screenshot).

The Optus Internet one definitively seems to help; however my first MMS to another provider (Vodafone) hung.. I'll play around with it a little more..

Worst case it's a definite improvement!!

Thanks
erosco

Once again I would thank you but have used all my thanks again lol [emoji23], if you find a lasting outcome I'll add it to the OP

Edit: @erosco post thanked , it's hard to tell with Tapatalk you thank a post and it thanks but if you've used them all it disappears later [emoji106]

Good to hear, Play around a bit and see what happens :good:

Given up again.. sorry.. some of the ones yesterday that showed 'sent' never appeared on my wife's phone.. also, with WiFi turned off the phone hangs during sending or receiving mms so I think the same underlying problem is there..

Might be time to retire the S3 soon :( - I've had a really good run (thanks to @rodman01 and others such as yourself).

Just need a new job to fund a new phone.. hehe.

Cheers

Sorry I couldn't find a solution for you [emoji31]
It's tough being out of work though just finished my Tafe training and finally after 1 year managed to get a store to take me on as a 32 year old trainee lol. I think once dev support stops I'll probably get a new phone not long after ,also already looked in to @Wood Man 's new phone the p9 light at Vodafone for a great price. I don't think I'll go the flagship route next time there are some great and almost equal devices at half the price.

Edit: you could always use a Telstra sim but Telstra can be pricey.

Update

Seems I can't contact the Proxy when on any LTE APN. If I'm on wifi (last entry) the HTTP connection goes through.. something is really really screwy.. Can't imagine why optus would block access to their own MMS proxy?!

Seems I can't contact the Proxy when on any LTE APN. If I'm on wifi (last entry) the HTTP connection goes through.. something is really really screwy.. Can't imagine why optus would block access to their own MMS proxy?!

That is strange I can't understand it either, maybe just restore your backup or go back to default settings. I'll have a think over it tonight and maybe something will come to mind.

also already looked in to @Wood Man 's new phone the p9 light at Vodafone for a great price. I don't think I'll go the flagship route next time there are some great and almost equal devices at half the price.

Hi,

OT:
P9 lite forum is not very popular for now. You can check yourself. I hope it will change in a near future. Almost nothing happens. I hope devs will come in. :fingers-crossed:

Why? a bit of background: With the arrival of Cyanogenmod 12.1 I noticed I could not send or receive MMS messages anymore. This turned out to be the case with all Lollipop 5.1x ROMS Cyanogenmod and AOSP and now on Marshmallow and Nougat. Something had changed in the way it was built that didn't work with my carriers APN. I figured out it was because my carrier uses a double APN so I thought i would try to merge them together and it worked, I now have to do this on every 5.1x ROM i flash so hopefully it will work for you too if your carrier uses a double APN :). This seems to work for Telstra users but has worked for other telco users too I can't guarantee it will work for you.

    UPDATE
Thanks to @erosco :good: for all his hard work, determination and troubleshooting to come up with a solution for all User's of the GT-I9305, and more than likely other Galaxy models (and possibly other devices) out there that use a separate APN for Internet and MMS. erosco has stated that he added
    ro.telephony.mms_data_profile=5
to his build.prop and he was able to get MMS working. @rodman01 has stated he will add this fix for user's in the future rom releases for his roms to have it "out of the box" :good: ,also I can't thank @erosco enough for finding a proper solution, please hit his thanks button http://xdaforums.com/galaxy-s3/help-i9305/enable-mms-5-1-aosp-roms-t3183220/post69843704 for solving this for us. Also attached is a screenshot erosco took to show what the build.prop should look like.
The app used in the screen shot is BuidProp Editor by JRummy you can download it here from playstore --> BuildProp Editor .To make it easier to give support please use that app if you are experiencing issues.

Ok so Basically I have by default a APN for data and another for MMS like in the first screenshot, but the way my APN is set by default it turns 4g to ! (on Marshmallow data doesn't break but just keeps saying sending MMS) When I send a MMS . So what I did was copy the APN information in MMS APN to the MMS section which was blank in the data APN like in the screenshots. The 2 and 3 screenshot is my default MMS APN so I copied that to the MMS section of the data APN like you can see in 4 and 5 screenshot to merge it .leave it as is but just add the MMS stuff were it applies and add MMS to APN type for instance my APN type now looks like this default, supl, mms also don't forget to add MMSC address and do not delete MMS APN ( thanks to @Fritly for the info) or it won't work. If you are still unable to use MMS read and try this http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=67711840&postcount=4063 thanks to @noc.jfcbs :good: and @Wood Man :good: If their posts help please hit their thanks button.
Hope this helps if anyone has anymore questions just ask I'll be glad to help. Thanks to @Anghirrim for testing :good:

The good news is that I believe there's code/fixes available:

    https://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/96584/
    https://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/96637/

These were applied to CM12.1 from what I can see.

*** Please ignore my last comments! - These fixes ARE in CM14.1 - we just need to enable the code in build.prop.

I added ro.telephony.mms_data_profile=5 to my build.prob and MMS now works when WiFi is disabled. This fix causes it to create a new interface (rmnet1) as part of the network connection rather than try and reuse an active internet network/apn.

YAY - You can post this on your OP if you'd like.. easy fix.. suspect it's for MOST samsung devices (S3, S5 at least) where multiple APNs are required for internet+mms. Lots of others must hit this.. can't believe more people don't complain.

Thanks again for all your help in pushing me to follow it through!

    Cheers

Thanks to @rodman01 @erosco 's fix is now included in Resurrection Remix :good:. I'll leave the thread open for people with other devices and people running older Lollipop and Marshmallow releases.
