Hi all,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 16Gb with Orange (Spain) and I have a question: What are the five files use *. Pit?
GT-I9300_mx_20120220.pit
GT-I9300_mx_20120322.pit
GT-I9300_mx_20120329.pit
M0_20120220.pit
mx.pit

I read on xda-developers that are used to repartition. That the first three:
GT-I9300_mx_20120220.pit = Galaxy S3 of 16 Gb
GT-I9300_mx_20120322.pit = Galaxy S3 of 32 Gb
GT-I9300_mx_20120329.pit = Galaxy S3 of 64 Gb

And the last two, what are they?
M0_20120220.pit
mx.pit

I installed Android 4.1.1 using Odin3 and:
GT-I9300_mx_20120220.pit = Galaxy S3 of 16 Gb
GT-I9300_mx_20120322.pit = Galaxy S3 of 32 Gb
GT-I9300_mx_20120329.pit = Galaxy S3 of 64 Gb

Only I've been able to install Android 4.1.1 using GT-I9300_mx_20120329.pit = Galaxy S3 of 64 Gb

Can you give me more information?

Thank you very much

PIT is partition information table .
You don't need it steer clear of using PIT as it may brick your phone .

Out of curiosity I used and so I would like to know if I damaged the phone

Can you give me more information please?

Thank you very much

If your phone still able to boot into Android then you are fine. Just don't touch the PIT file again. There is no turning back if anything goes wrong.

Thank you very much, I will not use it. But I do not understand because I do not give information about these files.

I advise, how I can format the phone to let it completely clean?

Thank you very much. Greetings

You can to go setting menu and factory reset. Remember to backup your files first.

Alternatively :

Type this in your dialer to wipe everything in your internal memory :

*2767*3855#

Warning: Wiping will start immediately without any prompt. So backup your files first.

Why you want to flash the PIT files?

Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

every one tells don't touch the pit file.... but no one tells the reason.... why? if we don't want to use the pit file why the developer build it in the first?

what if we want to clean my phone like we do in our pc's (format repartition) ??

im confused...?

in my galaxy SL i always flash it with pit file alone with other 4 files ....... so far i don't have any problem ... why only in SIII??

because if you flash a wrong file, you break your phone.

and you can format the phone without touching the pit

no, just the /data/ partition. use megawipe to wipe everything. but then you won't be able to boot since you'll have no firmware to boot into

Please do not use a PIT file when you do not have a clue as to why .
Your are heading for a bricked phone .

This is Android its not a PC and not Windows .
Suggest you bother to read the faqs and guides before flashing .
