Fixed by changing to custom kernel

Thanks. But it already fixed by changing to custom kernel.
I want ask for phone status, is this normal for this phone ? :
1. Normal CPU temp for this phone ? (53°c at gaming mode & 44°c for normal operation mode. Cpu max clock set to 1.5Ghz)
2. Battery normal temp ? (Got 40° gaming, 30° do nothing and normal mode) duration : 12H sleep state, with cellular network. 2H gaming.
3. Phone Voltage : 4.19 v = battery 100% and 3.4v = battery 35%. But phone regulator out are normal 1.1v when no battery with charger plugged.

I've been using the unofficial 9.0 lineage rom for a few hours now and i'm amazed with the results... so far only the selfie camera did not work but everything else did... I even think it runs smoother than this one... I definitely recommend you check it out for yourself... it still in alpha so be careful, but I think our future lies there... https://xdaforums.com/galaxy-s3/development/rom-lineageos-16-0-t3875899

(sorry for my english)

Hi there

This is the most stable version I've tested. For a few days now, I haven't had a problem with anything (which I can't tell about 15.1 and 16, which were a little unstable as I have described in the relevant topics, and forced me to go back to 14.1). Everything works great (I got rid of the famous minor issue with MTP-Host).

When it comes to performance, it sits between 16 (the fastest) and 15.1 (the slowest).

Battery drain is rather the same as I saw with 15.1 and 16, without any unnatural behavior (so far).

My setup #1:
- lineage-14.1-20190217-nightly-i9300-signed
- open_gapps-arm-7.1-pico-20190425
- addonsu-14.1-arm-signed

My setup #2:
- lineage-14.1-20190407-UNOFFICIAL-i9300
- open_gapps-arm-7.1-pico-20190425
- addonsu-14.1-arm-signed

Apps installed:
- open camera
- instagram
- swiftkey
- messenger lite
- notatnik
- txtpad
- google translate
- kate mobile
- traseo

I'm very pleased with this version.
It's a pity the official support is over.

Hi,
Thanks for the link to the latest unofficial release done by @NZedPred.
But I have an issue on TWRP when trying of installing it : "Updater process ended with ERROR : 7"
I'm with TRWP 3.3.0-0.
Before installing I wiped Dalvik/ART cache, cache and system.
Could you help me ?
Regards.

TWRP Error 7 Installing LineageOS

...Thanks for the link to the latest unofficial release done by @NZedPred.
But I have an issue on TWRP when trying of installing it : "Updater process ended with ERROR : 7"
I'm with TRWP 3.3.0-0.
Before installing I wiped Dalvik/ART cache, cache and system...

Error 7 in TWRP is a generic error message. Check above it for possible error details.

After flashing in TWRP & before rebooting: go to > Backup > Select Storage to external Micro SD card then > Home > Advanced > Copy Log to external SD card then you can connect to a computer to copy it as MTP is enabled by default in TWRP. Rename it ...txt & you could attach it to a reply maybe?

BTW TWRP automatically copies it's last log in /cache/recovery/last_log.

Make sure the download is not corrupted. @NZedPred included a MD5 checksum in his download pages. With a hash checker utility calculate the MD5 of the downloaded file & compare to his MD5.

"...I wiped Dalvik/ART cache, cache and system... - Try a Format Data as described in S3 i9300 LineageOS Super Clean Install & Samsung Firmware.

Please report back if you solved your problem or not.

Hi.
I''m about to test LineageOS 14.1 in my S3 i9300 international.
Can somebody who is using it now confirm that it doesn't suffer from GPS week rollover problem which started in last April with other ROMS ( I was using latest Android Revolutions ) ?
GPS recorder tracks points went to 1999, as 10bit week counter rolled back to zero after April 2019 and original software thinks it's the first rollover ( actually is the second )
Thanks.

Hello all i9300 users...
What options we have now and which one is the best for us?

- latest official 14.1: lineage-14.1-20190217-nightly-i9300-signed (or maybe one of the earlier builds?)
- microG: lineage-14.1-20190302-microG-i9300 (will there be updates or it is impossible without original 14.1 development?)
- unofficial build by NZedPred: lineage-14.1-20190407-UNOFFICIAL-i9300 @NZedPred? Are you plan to do updates?)

or maybe

lineage-16.0-20190411-UNOFFICIAL-i9300 (isn't battery problems too serious?)

Maybe something else? What direction to go, or which most stable and final version to choose?
What are your opinions?

For a new setup i would select unofficial 14.1. Due to lazieness I'll stay with microG. They could update, but their policy is to only build as long as official is built.

Real problem is in GPS firmware, but as this firmware will never be update for this old phone, only fix is in software I guess. After getting data from GPS, patch week/date on the fly before giving data to applications.

Hello!
Thanks for info... :/ Bad news. So it is impossible to fix it by using another ROM. Maybe GPS firmware is the same/similar in other device, and could be just copied/ported somehow? :/
Bike tracker I use is simple but superb (and open source [github] now - Cycledroid: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maral.cycledroid&hl=en ) so maybe fix is possible, but unf. it is abandonware and I have no skill to even start thinking about improve it... ;)

As for ROM to choose. I plan to make very clean install. So I guess will choose unofficial build by @NZedPred: lineage-14.1-20190407-UNOFFICIAL-i9300
It is great and widely used ROM, so hope author is willing to cook (security) update some day? Would be really great!
Thank you NZedPred for your work!)

Good to know, I'll take a look at that APP.
I'm using OruxMaps and then manually download tracks to different applications for analysis or uploading directly to strava. All my tracks after April 6th went bak to 1999 for this GPS problem in this old phone.

really hoping some sort of active developing ROM was able to patch this, otherwise I suppose It can be patched in each APP, but I don't think is easy or possible at all.
I suppose nobody cares.

I've been testing LOS 14.1 (several versions) LOS 15.1 (several versions), LOS 16 and RR v5.8.5. I'm sticking to the LOS 14.1, and to be precise: lineage-14.1-20190407-UNOFFICIAL-i9300. It runs great, fast and stable (I've only had one unnatural reboot in a few days). I only installed 9 apps (2 for social media, 2 for maps and sports activity, and the rest are just various utilities), I've disabled the start-up of some of them, and if I turn off synchronization and location for the night, enable "Do Not Disturb", while keeping WiFi and not changing the battery profile (balanced), the battery drain in a sleep mode is very good, only 4% during 8 hours (so theoretically it can last in a sleep mode for as long as 200h = 8 days) [I still have the original battery 2100mAh].
LOS 15.1 and Resurrection Remix v5.8.5 runs too slow for me, and LOS 16 is just unstable for now (broken camera and problems after boot up, but I'm looking forward to test upcoming releases, because LOS 16 runs fast as hell for me!).

FAQ - When's the next build going to be ready?

To those that are asking / wondering if I'll do new builds, yes I intend to do them still.

If you're wondering when the next one will be, one thing to do is to check the Lineage repos for the latest security string, e.g. go to https://www.lineageoslog.com/14.1 and look for a change such as "Bump Security String to 2019-04-05" (that's the latest one there at this point).

If you see that the security string has been applied (e.g. right now we're waiting for 2019-05-05 or possibly just 2019-05-01) then I will be able to do a new build with the latest security. I don't mind being tagged if you want to inform me that it's been updated. If you see that I've been tagged, just wait until I do the update - depending on how busy I am, it could take a couple of days.

Does your build also have the latest fixes for LOS or is it just monthly security fixes?

It builds whatever goes into the lineage repos. Most of the time the only things that are going into them are the security patches and fixes for specific devices (which almost certainly means not the S3), hence why I use the security patches as the trigger to do a new build.

A little Oreo update for you all...

Linux 4.17 will have support for the S3/Note 2. (So with a little bit of modification, you could install a regular Linux distro and use it on your phone!). I'm working on getting the notification LED driver submitted upstream - it should land for 4.18, probably along with support for the back/menu keys.

I've gotten audio working, but it's in need of more testing. I also manages to test the camera:
    Yq7qXCO.jpg

I've managed to successfully load the firmware onto i9300/n7100's modem. Currently I'm working on rewriting the kernel driver that RIL communicates with - Samsung's old implementation was unnecessarily complex, and they made some interesting design decisions in the way the driver behaves... Hopefully that will be done relatively soon - you can watch the progress here

I've got a few updates for you all :)

    The bad news:
A few things are broken with the HWC (Video recording is the main one at the moment). I've been quite busy recently IRL, so haven't had much time to work on this.
Android 7.1.2 doesn't boot, something's super weird during very early boot (it hangs waiting for threads to finish before starting the system server). Fixing this is my priority for the moment.

    The good news:
I understand a little better how the camera HAL works, hopefully I'll be able to properly fix video recording (instead of using a hack in frameworks like we do now).
I may even have some more free time in the next few weeks (no promises...)

    Hi!

Android O has a lot of changes, including to the kernel. Google supports as far back as 3.10 (five years old!). Backporting these changes to Linux 3.0 (seven years old!) might be possible, but no matter how hard I try, the kernel will have huge numbers of vulnerabilities. Going forward, more and more effort will be required to continue maintaining it.

So, before working on Oreo I've decided to port i9300/i9305/n7100/t0lte to mainline Linux. This is going to take a while - I started working on this in earnest at the end of last year. Currently, there's no OpenGL support - so instead I've been using a traditional Linux distribution to develop on.

Currently, there's a pretty neat list of things working (keep in mind, I haven't even attempted to boot Android on this yet...):
    • Display + panel brightness (on S3 and Note 2)
    • USB
    • Capacitive keys
    • Hardware keys
    • Sensors (on S3 only)
    • Wifi
    • Notification LED
    • HDMI (untested)
    • Cameras (untested)
    • Touchscreen (on S3 and Note 2)
    • Charging

Fortunately, the lima project exists for OpenGL on Mali 400. So far, it can render spinning cubes - but I don't think it's quite far enough to handle Android yet...

That leaves the main things left to figure out:
    • GPS (will require a lot of work - reversing the protocol used...)
    • Modem (I've started working on i9300/n7100, but it's not yet booting fully)
    • BT (should be super easy)
    • Audio
    • Note 2 sensors
    • Note 2 S-Pen support

You can see my progress in my github repository.
