Quickest ROM

I know everyone will have their favorites, but I need to keep this tablet going for just a couple more months.

Can anyone recommend a ROM that is fairly stripped down, and runs quick (as quick can be for a 7 year old tablet! )
But also also allows me to use the later version of apps direct from the Play Store, rather than having to download older versions from othersites.

I'M USING RR but it is not that fast. not blaming the Rom but the tablet itself is a real old guy by now
